Tie-dye

To tie-dye materials you will need string, tie-dye colour, cooking salt and a sealing solution. Each child should bring a light coloured cotton t-shirt with them. A large bucket is required to stir the dye with salt and hot water (please take care to follow the instructions on the pack). Another bucket is required for the sealing solution. It is a good idea to lay out a large plastic sheet and wear rubber gloves. The garment stays in the dye for 10 minutes and should be stirred every now and again. After being dyed, the garment is placed in the sealing solution bucket and is then rinsed out well with cold water and then hung out to dry. The design achieved is dependent of the dying technique used. The garment can be simply tied into knots, can be tied with string, the garment can be rolled into a ball or held together with pegs. All of these techniques produce a different result.
