Shadow heads

Craft Shadow heads Here you will need polystyrene plates (approx. 2cm thick) and tracing paper. A child sits on a chair near the wall and the shadow of his face is projected onto the wall with a strong torch. Using the tracing paper and with the help of a member of staff, the outline of the face can be traced. Now the outline can be cut out of the tracing paper and with a suitable sticky tape, can be taped onto the polystyrene. With a fine fret saw, a sharp slim knife or a hot piece of wire, the head outline can be cut out from the polystyrene. Stick a piece of ribbon onto the polystyrene head and hang it up from the ceiling. If you place all of the shadow heads together, you can make it into a quiz. Can the parents recognise their own child’s head and guess which shadow belongs to which child?
