Self-made compass
Cut out a compass and stick it on the underside of an aluminium lid. Take a magnet and rub it against a sewing needle from the needle eye to the tip. Ensure that the magnet is rubbed to the tip and comes off the needle for a distance of at least 10cm before being returned to the needle. Do this several times.
Following this, stick the needle on the paper. The tip points north.
Fill a bowl or saucer with water and place the compass in it. Ensure that the magnet, PC and other magnetic fields are not in the vicinity of it.
