Carneval ‘Faschings’ Masks
Materials:
- Card
- Pencil
- Card or brightly coloured craft card
- Coloured pens (either wood-crayons or felt pens)
- Needle or hole punch
- Knife
- Rubber or wool
- Scissors (sharp scissors)
Preparation:
Firstly print out the template and stick it onto card. This needs to be cut out and replicated so that the youth club participants do not need to wait a long time for their templates. For smaller children you should draw examples onto craft paper (using the templates as help), so that during the youth club session they are not swamped down with drawing.
Making process for General 1:
Using the template, the carneval mask is drawn on to cardboard or craft card and cut out. When drawing on the eyes and nose (where applicable) pay attention that they fit the child making the mask. The eyes should be cut out with sharp scissors.
Rabbit:
The rabbit can be drawn onto brown craft card and if required, the inner ears can be cut out and stuck on. Or alternatively use plain cardboard and decorate with felt pens. Using black felt tip pen draw some ears, nose, eyes and teeth.
Cat:
The cat can be drawn onto brown, black or white craft card and if desired, spots such as the inner ears can be cut out and stuck on. Draw on the ears, nose, eyes and tongue using black felt tip pen.
Wolf:
The wolf can be drawn onto brown, black or white craft card and if desired, spots such as the inner ears can be cut out and stuck on. Draw on the ears, nose, eyes and tongue using black felt tip pen.
Bear:
The bear can be drawn onto brown or white craft card, if desired the inner ears can be cut out and stuck on. Alternatively you can use cardboard decorated nicely with coloured pens. Using a black felt tip pen, draw on the ears, nose, eyes and mouth.
Elephant:
The elephant can be drawn onto grey craft card. Using black felt tip pen, draw on ears, a realistic looking trunk and eyes.
Hedgehog:
The hedgehog can be drawn onto grey or brown craft card. Alternatively, use cardboard and decorate nicely with coloured pens. Using black or brown felt tip pen, draw on ears, nose, eyes and its many spines.
Making process general 2:
After making the animal carneval masks, using the hole punch/needle make a hole on the left and right side of the mask, through which wool or elastic is threaded/tied. The length of the wool/elastic used depends on the size of the child’s head for whom it is being made.
