The white train
There was once an old, lonely man. He lived in a hut on the edge of the woods, direct next to an old disused railway line. One evening, he got a mysterious telephone call. "Tonight on the stroke of midnight, a train will drive past you..."toot, toot, toot...
He didn’t give it any more thought and went to bed because the old tracks hadn’t been used for years. However, on the stroke of midnight, he heard a train driving past his house. Toot, toot, toot...
On the next evening, the same telephone call came: "Tonight on the stroke of midnight, a train will drive past you..."toot, toot, toot...
This time he wanted to stay awake to see the train with his own eyes. A train really did arrive on the stroke of midnight but it stopped this time. The old man did not believe his own eyes. Six men dressed in black got out of the train. They were carrying a black coffin. They placed the coffin on a black table. The old man watched to see what would happen.
The six men dressed in black opened the coffin. A cloth was in the coffin; a white cloth. What was written on the cloth? The old man tried to read the words on the cloth.
ONLY PERSIL GETS CLOTHES AS WHITE :-)
Author: sent in by Julia S. who heard this story at a camp.
PS: I must say that I heard this story over 35 years ago as well. It’s amazing how long stories can keep going. I think it was the weiße Riese in those days (another German washing powder).
