In carpet stores, you can get different length of rolls, the same at the News Agency but for newspaper rolls. Even they are shorter they still can serve well for many games. It’s always good to have 5-6 rolls available. You can store them in the material storage of a cupboard so that you have them for the next gaming night when needed.

Instead of carpet rolls, of course, you can also use PVC drainpipes from Bunnings. They are available in different lengths and diameters. However, that might get a bit expensive.

List of Carpet Rolls Games

The following games require skills, cooperation, communications skills and some are simple competition games, requiring gross- and fine-motor skills, speed, and sense of balance.

Ball Track

Several carpet rolls are put together to a ball track. You can use duct tape and cardboard pieces to join them. When finished get a ball to roll through. For example, if every team gets exactly the same materials there could be a competition – who’s track is built for fast rolling, which one is slower?

Using a long rope fix a carpet roll up on a branch or a long rod. In front of the bottom opening put 3 -4 plastic cups in a circle. The objective now is to put sand in the top end. A second player guides the bottom end of the roll in a way so that the sand goes in the cups. Measure the sand by the capacity of the containers to the amount of sand filled into the top. The team which loses the least sand wins.

Pipeline

If a team consists of 5 people, 4 of them, each gets a carpet roll. The objective is to hold each roll together so that they create a pipeline without using sticky tape to hold the rolls together. The remaining 5th person fills sand, water, marbles, little balls, etc., into the pipeline which should run through the roll to the bottom where it is collected in a bucket. The team which collects the most of the material or its equivalent wins.

Balancing

The candidate has to balance a way of 1-2m walking on a carpet roll. Be careful as someone could get hurt. If needed lend some assistance.

5-6 carpet rolls serve as a carriage for maybe hay bales or a board on which 2-3 team members on it. One or more team members are acquired, to move the hay bale or the board with the other kids, and move them on a flat surface 5-10m. The hay bale or board is not allowed to touch the ground.

Stacking

Shorter pieces of carpet rolls are stacked together. Which team creates the tallest free-standing tower (free-standing at least 5-10 seconds).

Wrapping up a rope

In the middle of the carpet roll, you attach a long rope. The objective is to roll up the rope by turning the roll. Which team can do that the fastest?

Carpet roll throwing

Similar as with the game “tree trunk throwing” only here you just use a carpet roll. Measured is the distance from the discharge line to the first ground contact.

Telephone tube

Several carpet rolls serve as a long line. On each end of the line, there is each one player. The one at the beginning gets shown a word, written on a piece of paper. Now he has to say this word into the “long line” and the player on the other end tries to guess the word. It is needless to mention that this game only makes sense if the line is long enough so that the word cannot be heard in any other way. If possible, the line can be transferred from one room to the other with the door closed as much as possible.

For every correct word, the team receives one point.
